The Samuel Wickens Centre is open!
The major renovation works at the newly named Samuel Wickens Centre, the ex WRVS Building in the Car Park behind the Waitrose Store in Broadmark Lane, Rustington, are now complete and the building was handed over to Rustington Parish Council by the its owners, Store Property Investments Limited at the beginning of April 2018 on a 10 year Lease basis.
The Centre will provide a new home for Rustington Museum and the Village Information Centre. There is also a fantastic community facility available for hire in the Centre
The hireable community facility in the Centre is available to be used by local Groups, Clubs and Organisations, and there are drop-in Tea and Coffee mornings managed by volunteers, for the benefit of the local community.
The Village Information Centre will be opening to the public on 1 May 2018, and operates between the hours of 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Saturday. The Community Facility in the Centre will be available to hire on a sessional basis with effect from 8 May 2018.
A Public Open Day is to be held on Saturday 5 May 2018, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, when everyone is encouraged to pop in and have a look around. Councillors and members of the Council’s personnel will be on hand to provide information about the Centre. A professional Museum Consultant and Designer, who are currently preparing a Bid for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to provide the necessary equipment, furniture and expertise to fulfil the ‘Rustington Vision’ for the future, will also be in attendance carrying out a Public Consultation in the Museum area of the building, to gather information to support the Lottery Fund Application.
The opening of the Museum will be later in the year, as this is dependent on the funding bid being successful. At that time, it will also be open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Saturday. Until it has relocated to the new building, or for as long as is practicably possible staff resources permitting, it is hoped that it will remain open at its current location in Church Farm Cottage, 76-78 The Street.
The Parish Council is indebted to Store Property Investments Limited for affording it this most exciting opportunity which, will not only raise the profile most positively of the services that will be provided in the Centre, but will also ensure that the facility offers social inclusion for all.
